We’re delighted to contribute to the invaluable work that Solace does for women & children suffering from & surviving emotional & physical abuse.

I found this charity during lockdown.  A time that we were all forced to stay at home, for months on end.  I was decluttering, like thousands of others, but wanted to donate books & toys to a refuge, rather than kids that already had what everything they needed.  It was a long time before I was allowed to drop anything off due to the lockdowns, but I was so happy to eventually be able to leave lots boxes of toys & books for kids and mums at a local refuge.

I spent a lot of the lockdowns incredibly worried, thinking about all the women & children forced to live with domestic abuse & violence - trapped & unable to escape homes that weren’t safe, with minimal or no support at all available to help them.
Solace provides 22 essential refuges, as well as vital practical help with benefits, legal issues, health, immigration & employment.

Given the massive scale of government cuts towards domestic violence provision & the fact that in the UK over 60% of referrals to refuges are declined; the work done by Solace and other refuges & charities is not only essential, but life-saving.

I think what makes Solace really special is the invaluable & life changing emotional support they also provide; from 1 to 1 counselling, holistic therapies & groups which enable women to recover from & thrive after the long-term impact of physical and emotional abuse. They also offer creative therapy groups and support to help children.
